At The Alexandra Clinic we offer a number of laser procedures. Most patients are suitable for laser treatment, however, you will require a consultation to determine whether your condition is likely to be improved by laser and which laser treatment best suits your needs. The nature of the treatment, likely cosmetic outcome and potential side effects will all be explained. You will also receive information on the costs of the procedure as well as an estimate of the number of treatments required.

Most of the laser procedures are well tolerated either without anaesthetic or following the application of a topical anaesthetic (cream). Deeper resurfacing procedures may require injected anaesthetic blocks and/or oral sedation.

Many patients choose to have laser procedures performed on a Thursday or Friday, allowing some time to recover over the weekend. There may be redness, swelling and peeling of the skin. This ‘downtime’ varies according to the procedure perfomed.

Vascular Laser

Our ND-YAG Vascular laser uses light to target and destroy unwanted blood vessels of the skin (commonly on the face, neck, chest and legs). The laser wavelength selectively targets the abnormal blood vessels only, sparing the surrounding normal skin structures. When used properly by a trained practitioner, the procedure is extremely safe and effective. To make the procedure more comfortable however, the skin is kept cool with a chilled plate so that the heat energy is not transferred to other areas of the skin to cause unwanted burns.

This procedure is generally very well tolerated by patients and there is minimal downtime involved.

Laser Resurfacing – Profractional

Profractional resurfacing is very useful in reducing the appearance of wrinkles and pigmentation and is also effective in improving acne scarring.

Profractional resurfacing involves an Er:Yag laser directing micro-columns of infrared light to vapourise skin tissue. Settings are individually tailored to the particular problem. A computer-guided scanner accurately fixes the laser parameters giving a precise and uniform effect on the skin.

There is a degree of redness and swelling associated with profractional laser treatment, however, compared with traditional resurfacing lasers, there is a much shorter healing time as well as a greatly reduced risk of complications. The treatment can be performed using local anaesthetic. It is safe to use this procedure in patients with darker skin types, and on sensitive areas such as the neck and chest. The true benefit of profractional laser resurfacing is the collagen remodelling effect that occurs during the 4-6 months following your treatment.

Enhanced results can be achieved with repeat treatments.

Erbium Laser Resurfacing

MicroLaserPeel treatments can make a big difference to fine wrinkles, scars, age spots and pigmentation problems.

A MicroLaserPeel carefully and precisely removes the outermost layers of the skin using an Er:Yag laser which delivers infrared beams with a wavelength of 2940nm.
Sophisticated computer technology fixes the laser parameters such as depth and scan pattern to ensure the best possible results.

This procedure produces smoother, healthier, more vibrant skin, and an immediate change in skin texture and tightness. There is a degree of redness, swelling and peeling associated with this procedure, the duration of which varies according to the depth of the treatment delivered. Enhanced results can be achieved with repeat treatments.

The erbium laser can also be used to spot treat problem lesions such as xanthelasma (yellowish patches around the eyes),syringomata and keratoses.
