Meet Our Team


Dr Alexandra Varol graduated from Medicine at The University of Newcastle in 1998. After working in general medicine for a number of years she developed an interest in dermatology and undertook a period of research on skin healing and rejuvenation in Australia, Sweden and Switzerland. She was admitted to the degree of Master of Science (Medicine) at The University of NSW in 2004. Subsequently, Dr Varol undertook extensive specialist training in dermatology at St Vincent’s, Royal North Shore and Liverpool Hospitals as well as The Skin and Cancer Foundation and was admitted as a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. She has published a number of research and clinical papers in peer-reviewed Australian and European Dermatology Journals. Dr Varol is skilled in a broad range of medical and surgical dermatology, laser treatments and skin care. She has a keen interest in the art of cosmetic medicine and takes pride in achieving quality, precise aesthetic results for her cosmetic clients.

Dr. Emma StarrittDr. Emma Starritt graduated from Medicine at the University of Sydney in 2002. She also has a PhD, having completed research at the prestigious Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, and also in Canada. She has published a number of papers on the subject of malignant melanoma. Dr. Starritt was awarded the Sir John Loewenthal Prize and the Robert Scott Skirving Memorial Prize by the Dean of Medicine at the University of Sydney, and the 2002 Young Investigator Award at the 3rd International Sentinel Node Congress held in Yokohama, Japan for this work.

Dr. Starritt completed her internship and residency at Liverpool and St Vincent’s hospitals respectively. She commenced specialist training in surgery initially, working as a surgical registrar at St Vincent’s and Sydney hospitals in addition to a number of country locations. She began her specialist training in dermatology in 2006, and has worked at the Royal North Shore, Concord, Westmead, and Prince of Wales hospitals, in addition to both The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, and Sydney Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Starritt is a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. Her areas of interest include general adult and paediatric dermatology, the management of skin cancers and cosmetic dermatology.

Ms Burcu TavluMs Burcu Tavlu is a registered nurse and has worked as a specialist dermatology nurse for over 10 years.  Burcu has undertaken extensive training in surgical nursing. Her special interests include cosmetic dermatology and laser treatments. Burcu is an experienced cosmetic injector, with extensive knowledge in advanced techniques with muscle relaxants.  She helps our patients plan optimal aesthetic outcomes by combining invasive and non-invasive dermal procedures. She is also experienced in many aspects of the management of chronic skin diseases such as psoriasis and eczema. Burcu is trained and highly skilled in the performance of photodynamic therapy, broad band light treatments and medical grade chemical peels. Burcu always aims to ensure our patients are comfortable and at ease while providing the best possible treatment outcomes. Burcu is available for advice on the telephone and in person if patients have queries pertaining to their treatments at the clinic. Burcu has been a member of the Australian Dermatology Nurses Association (ADNA) for many years.

Ms Gina CicalaMs Gina Cicala has been with the practice for over 7 years and has many years of experience as a medical receptionist. She is multi-skilled and fills roles as practice manager, typist and general receptionist. Her skills and friendly personality are a great contribution to the clinic

Ms Alix Ugur (Registered nurse) has been a nurse for almost 10 years, with a background in general medicine and surgical nursing. Over the last 5 years she has had a focus on peri-operative care including complex wound management. She is ambitious in the area of dermatology, particularly cosmetic dermatology. Alix has a confident yet gentle manner and a high standard of professionalism and always strives to make our clients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible.

Ms Janelle Gilchrist is part time practice manager at the Alexandra Clinic. Janelle has many years’ experience in customer service, accounts, office management and reception in varying facets of business and industries. Her expertise and friendly manner is a real asset to The Alexandra Clinic and Janelle will always ensure that our patients feel welcome at all times.
